Vacuum Pump - Not Able to Achieve Required Suction Pressure ( Vacuum )
KK
If the pump is not producing sufficient vacuum. the possiblities are
a) The pump is too small , but if you replacing other pump with the same rating ,then this should not be the problem
b) The flow of the the service liquid is too low , increased the flow of service water to twice the rated value
c) Temperature of service liquid is high ( not so likely in palm oil mill )
d) Air leakage in the system
e) Leakage in Mechanical seal
f) Internal Corrosion , but if new pump then this is unlikely
Checking your pump rating and confirm if is correct
If correct rating .focus on (b) to ( e )
Other mechanical fault , clearance between impeller and plate , or casing

Energy / Power Cost in Pumps
Gone are the days of cheap power
Reducing Energy consumption is one of the major industry priority
To optimise new or existing installations . always compare pumping performance
to energy output . The variation can be as high as 50 %
Question : How much of the energy consumption do Pumps or Blowers represent in your
Plant ?
Generally , the total breakdown cost of a Pump During its operating life may be as follow
Investment of a Pump : 10 %
Maintenance Cost : 25 %
ENERGY COST : 65 %
Pump design should be focus on piping design and keep as low as possible the System Delivery Head
Unconventional installation may also be considered
We know of one Factory installing an End scution pump with the discharge of the casing facing downward
and lower BHP was recorded ,compared to the standard installation.
